Teach your child to engage in Self-Care during COVID-19 [and beyond]

“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”
-Dolly Parton

This year has taught us to live a life without materialistic benefits. We all have been in a complete lockdown for months. It was tough, and the most challenging time is now when the economy is all set to get back to the track. Till August, most of us were in our safe zone, i.e. our home. Parents were also a bit relaxed about their child’s well-being. However, it is not the case as we stepped into September 2020. Most of the parents are about to rejoin their work. Leaving kids alone or in Daycare does not feel safe anymore.

If you are also a working couple, we understand your concerns at this moment. This is why we suggest the parents to teach children how to take care of self in your absence. It is simple precautions that can save them from Coronavirus, many seasonal flu & diseases. Being a reputed CBSE School in Palghar, we want to make students and parents aware of these self-care tips to fight Coronavirus. These tips are not a cure but precautions.

As we say, precaution is better than cure; here are the following Self Care tips for your child.

Be Healthy with the right meals

As Coronavirus has given moms a chance to experiment with various recipes, children love it. Yes, it is okay to eat junk once in a while but don’t make it a habit. Encourage your children to eat healthy food, even in your absence. Tell them about the health benefits. Explain how it can build immunity. You can put straight facts or tell a story but ensure your child is convinced and start loving healthy food as much as they love junkies!

  • Include fibre, proteins, vitamin sources in daily meals.
  • Give them lukewarm water daily to keep throat track clean.
  • Say No to Outside food for some time.
  • Encourage kids to eat fruits that have Vitamin C.
  • Encourage them to eat meals on time & take proper sleep.

Maintain Hygiene

Active Kids and Hygiene are often two different poles. However, this not a time to be lenient. Tell your child to play games indoor for some more time till this coronavirus spread slows down. We agree it can harm a child’s overall development, but it is the need of the hour. Encourage them to learn a new in-home activity or develop a new hobby. It will keep them engaged and indoors. Remind your child to wash/sanitize their hands after they touch anything that has come from the market.

Emotional Well-being

Kids are kids, after all. Being alone for so long can make them cranky, irritated and bored. This is a big concern for parents right now. You can help your child by enrolling them in some online learning activities. This way, they will be busy and productive throughout the day. Also, do tell them to attend online school classes. Half of the academic year is over, it is time for students of higher classes to pay attention to studies. Besides academics, you can treat them with his/her group video call. Your child will love it.  This part of care is on Parents!

Follow Protocols

There are many guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). Teach your child to follow these guidelines, even in your absence. Encourage them to thoroughly wash hands for at least 20 seconds after coming back to home. Social distancing needs to be taught properly. Tell your children to put their masks on whenever they step out or an outsider visits home. You must teach the proper way to handle face masks. Aware them about the hazards of touching face and masks frequently. It is a tough time for children as well. The free birds don’t like restrictions. They may get cranky at first but don’t let them go out without masks. It is for their well-being only.

This pandemic has totally shifted the way we all used to live our lives. The carefree, relaxed attitude can be a trouble maker for you and family. Everyone needs to take precautions. As people are all set to rejoin their workplaces and schools still unopened, the best way is to teach your child the art of Self Care. They can learn it and protect themselves and others just like a responsible citizen. Make India strong by making children #AatmaNirbhar!

Sanskruti World School wishes the health & well-being of every child. We are doing our best by abiding by the coronavirus guidelines. Once we get a green signal to reopen, we will ensure to welcome students amid complete sanitisation & follow social distancing norms to the best of our capacity. Till then- stay home, stay safe!
